Warning over sat nav thefts

Drivers are being urged by Dyfed Powys Police not to leave satellite navigation systems in their vehicles.

In Pembrokeshire police are also urging motorists to lock their vehicles after a spate of sat nav thefts on insecure vehicles.

PC Sue Blacklaw-Jones said: "There are a number of steps you can take to protect your sat nav but the simplest one is locking your vehicles and closing any windows.

"Not only has satellite navigation equipment become more popular with motorists, it has also become a target with thieves. Make sure you don’t become a target, be sensible and remember to remove it when you leave your vehicle.

Dyfed Powys Police urge motorists to take the following precautions to avoid the distress of costs involved in loss and damage to vehicles:-  Always remove the sat nav from your car  Do not leave in the glove department, this is the first place a thief will look ∑ Always wipe suction marks from the windscreen  Security mark your sat nav  Do not leave anything on view in your car. Thieves are opportunists and it only takes them moments to break in.

 PC Blacklaw Jones added: "While Dyfed Powys is a safe area with relatively low crime, we are encouraging motorists to take extra care remember to remove any temptation and take their sat navs with them when they leave their vehicles. Motorists can play their part by following advice and avoid become the victim of an unnecessary crime."
